【摘要】:TheSCSIprotocolisdesignedtoprovideanefficientpeer-to-peerI/Obuswiththemaximumnumberofhostsandperipheralsdeterminedbythebuswidth(8or16).Datamaybetransferredasynchronouslyorsynchronouslyatratesthatdependprimarilyondeviceimplementationandcablelength.SCSIisanI/Ointerfacethatmaybeoperatedoverawiderangeofmediaandtransferrates.TheobjectivesoftheparallelinterfaceinSCSIare:a)Toprovidehostcomputerswithdeviceindependencewithinaclassofdevices.Thus,differentdiskdrives,tapedrives,printers,opticalmediadrivesandotherSCSIdevicesmaybeaddedtothehostcomputerswithoutrequiringmodificationstogenericsystemhardware;b)ToprovidecompatibilitysuchthatconformingSCSI-2andSPI-2devicesmayinteroperatewithSPI-3devicesgiventhatthesystemsengineeringiscorrectlydone.ConformingSCSI-2andSPI-2devicesshouldrespondinanacceptablemannertorejectSPI-3protocolextensions.SPI-3protocolextensionsaredesignedtobepermissiveofsuchrejectionsandthusallowSCSI-2andSPI-2devicestocontinueoperationwithoutrequiringtheuseoftheextensions.ThisinternationalstandardenhancesthefunctionalityoftheSPI-2standard,andisintendedtobethechoicefornewdesignsovertheSPI-2standard.Somenewfeaturesare:fast-80datatransfers,doubletransition(DT)transfers,andCRConparalleltransfers.
